This text was written for the Jan van Eyck Academie's «Opening Week Brochure’, 2008. I have inserted hyperlinks to the relevant projects.

My research at Jan van Eyck corresponds with the ‘Pensive Image’ project initiated by Hanneke Grootenboer. In this context, I am extending my PhD research with the aim of completing a book. I also take part in Katja Diefenbach’s seminar on political theory ‘After 1968’. I have contributed to collaborative projects such as ‘LA Works’ and the ‘Department of Reading’ which were initiated by fellow researchers and have also organised projects such as Video as Urban Condition to which fellow researchers have contributed.

My research is principally concerned with practices, such as drawing and video, which are not the exclusive property of art. They are therefore sites of transmission, exchange, confusion and contestation. I aim to elaborate a critical, interdisciplinary position. This calls for attention to material detail and a meta-theoretical critical apparatus.

I am interested in how institutional structures affect the production and transmission of knowledge. I have researched the actual conditions of research at Jan van Eyck Academie with the aim of developing proposals, in collaboration with fellow researchers, for promoting researchers’ involvement in institutional matters and eliminating discriminatory practices and structures. This research is also documented online.
